2024 Co-Ed Varsity Track & Field
The LFA track & field team concluded the season at the Shamrock Invitational hosted by Berrien Springs High School in Berrien Springs, Mich. Kate Delia ’25 led the Caxys by winning the 800m run, finished second in the 400m dash, and seventh in the 200m dash. Kendall Scales ’24 took fifth in the 300m hurdles while Diana Hofmann ’24 was fourth in the 3200m run.

LFA hosted the ISL Track & Field Championships with the girls team placing fourth and the boys team finishing fifth overall. Sari Cheung ’26 won the long jump to lead the Caxys while numerous other athletes finished in the top three in their respective events. Matthew Sexton ’24 finished second in the 300m hurdles while Kate Delia ’25 placed second in the 400m dash and third in the 800m run. Cheung took third in the triple jump to go along with her long jump title with William Sun ’24 placing third in the discus, Gabi Stewart ’24 third in the shot put and Kendall Scales ’24 third in the 100m hurdles.

The Caxys tuned up for the ISL Championships with the LFA All Comers Meet that saw a longtime school record broken as the girls team finished first and the boys team placed second. The first-place girls 4x200m relay squad featuring Maddie Goldman ’25, Grace Lombardo ’24, Kendall Scales ’24, and Kate Delia ’25 set a new school mark with a time of 1:54.14. The previous record of 1:55.98 was set 21 years ago. Additional winners for the Caxys included Leo Lei ’27 in the triple jump, Sari Cheung ’26 in the long jump, Mekael Mian ’25 in the high jump, Matthew Sexton ’24 in the 300m hurdles, Scales in the 100m hurdles, and Austin Ewing ’26 in the 100m dash.

LFA welcomed 11 schools to campus for the LFA Invite. The boys team finished second while the girls team placed third overall. Top finishers for the Caxys included Roman McLaurine ’26 winning the 100m dash, Kate Delia ’25 taking first place in the 400m dash, and Matthew Sexton ’24 winning the 300m hurdles on the track. In the field events, Leo Lei ’27 and Maddie Goldman ’25 each won the triple jump competition. The girls 4x800m relay squad of Kyra Quinn ’27, Eva Duhovny ’26, Selina Ye ’26, and Marylou Marin ’27 also won its race.

The Caxys hosted the LFA Early Season and welcomed five other schools to the Academy. LFA finished second for both the boys and girls teams. Winners for LFA included Aubrey Ewing ’27 in the long jump, Leo Lei ’27 in the long jump, Gabi Stewart ’24 in the discus, Matthew Sexton ’24 in the 300m hurdles, Diana Hofmann ’24 in the 3200m run and 1600m run, Maria Retelewski ’25 in the 800m run, and the 4x400m relay team of Sexton, John David Gallagher ’24, Colin Gupta ’24, and Colton Dunford ’26.

Kate Delia ’25 represented LFA at the Illinois Top Times Indoor Championships hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University. Delia finished 12th in the Class 1A 400m race in a time of 1:03.14.

The Caxys returned to the University of Chicago for the second indoor meet of the season. The event took place at the Henry Crown Field House and featured 11 teams. Seven more indoor records fell along with many personal bests set by the Caxys. The new indoor marks included Diana Hofmann ’24 in the 1,600m run, Matthew Sexton ’24 in the 60m dash, Kate Delia ’25 set a new record in the 400m dash, Kendall Scales ’24 in the 60m hurdles, Maddie Goldman ’25 in the 60m dash, Maria Retelweski ’25 in the 800m run, and the 4x200m relay squad of De'Avon Garcilazo ’26, Yusef Primus ’25, Austin Ewing ’26, and Roman McLaurine ’26.

The Caxys traveled to the University of Chicago for the first indoor meet of the season. The event took place at the Henry Crown Field House and featured 10 teams. LFA’s squad broke numerous school records while numerous personal bests were set. Among the new indoor records were Diana Hofmann ’24 in the 1,600m run, Colin Gupta ’24 in the 800m run, Maria Retelewski ’25 in the 800m run, Matthew Sexton ’24 in the 400m dash, Kyra Quinn ’27 in the 400m dash before Kate Delia ’25 set the record again in the next heat, Delia also set a new 200m dash record, John David Gallagher ’24 in the 60m hurdles, and Roman McLaurine ’26 in the 60m dash.
