Lake Forest Academy is a proud founding member of the the Midwest Prep Hockey League that was founded in the spring of 2000. The objective of the MPHL is to provide colleges with well-prepared student athletes that succeed in the college hockey environment. The league has maintained a competitive level of play throughout the USA and Canada over its history and many former MPHL players are on Junior and University rosters around the country. For the 2023-24 season, the MPHL membership includes: Académie Ste-Cécile International School (Windsor, Ont.), Bishops College School (Sherbrooke, Quebec), Gilmour Academy (Gates Mills, Ohio), King's-Edgehill School (Windsor, N.S.), Lake Forest Academy (Lake Forest, Ill.), Rice Memorial (South Burlington, Vt.), Ridley College (St. Catharines, Ont.), Rothesay Netherwood (Rothesay, N.B.), St. Francis High School (Hamburg, N.Y.), Shady Side Academy (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Upper Canada College (Toronto, Ont.), and Wyoming Seminary (Kingston, Pa.).

Starting with the 2023-24 season, Lake Forest Academy is competing in the Central Conference of the Tier 1 Hockey Federation (THF). The THF is a USA Hockey Sanctioned Tier-I Youth Hockey League that offers a highly competitive environment for Tier 1 and elite clubs nationwide. The THF Central Conference is a highly competitive division within the Tier 1 Hockey Federation and its teams include: Biggby Coffee Hockey (Ann Arbor, Mich.), CarShield Hockey (St. Louis, Mo.), Colorado Springs Tigers (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Indiana Elite (Indianapolis, Ind.), Lake Forest Academy (Lake Forest, Ill.), Rocky Mt. Rough Riders (Superior, Colo.), Soo Indians (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.), Team Illinois (Woodridge, Ill.), and Tri-State Spartans (Cincinnati, Ohio).
