Boys Varsity Basketball Falls at Buzzer in Overtime at Thornton Fractional South

Caxys Lose: 38.00 - 41.00
In a tight, low scoring, back and forth contest, the Caxys fell a little short in heartbreaking fashion at Thornton Fractional South. A slow pace, and long possessions, led to a halftime score of 16-16 before the pace increased in third quarter. T.F. South took a five-point lead early in the fourth before LFA answered late in regulation. On the final possession of the fourth quarter, Paulius Karvelis ’25 tipped in a missed shot at the buzzer to tie the game at 38. Once again, the Caxys fell behind by five to start overtime, but found a way to fight back again to tie the game on a Scottie Watson ’26 three-pointer from corner with a minute-and-a-half left. T.F. South once again stalled and held for the final shot, but their shot with eight seconds left was off the mark. A furious series of events in the final seconds ended with T.F. South getting a LFA turnover and banking in a three-pointer as time expired for the 41-38 final score. Quinn Lefkosky ’24 continued led the Caxys with 12 points on four three-pointers.

In a defensive battle, the Caxys lost another close game where St. Viator converted free throws for the 48-40 final score. LFA controlled the glass, played excellent defense, and limited their turnovers offensively, but the team could not convert on the offensive side of the ball to get the lead.
Boys Varsity Basketball Locks Down North Shore Country Day in Win

The Caxys had one of their best defensive outings of the season, holding North Shore Country Day to a season-low in points. The 46-33 win saw Arnas Simaitis ’25 lead LFA in scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots while holding North Shore's best player in check.

Quinn Lefkofsky ’24 knocked down six three-pointers, but it wasn’t quite enough as visiting Northridge Prep posted a 48-41 decision over LFA at Glore Gym. The game played within a possession or two throughout the evening before the visitors extended the lead with free throws in the final minutes.

Caxys Lose: 32.00 - 48.00
The Caxys traveled to Harlem High School near Rockford and played in front a packed gym that saw Harlem start quickly from behind the arc to build a lead that wouldn’t be overcome by LFA. The Caxys found themselves down 32-14 at halftime and attempted to make a run in the third quarter, but Harlem maintained a double-digit lead until the final buzzer with the final score at 48-32.

Caxys Win: 35.00 - 31.00
LFA pulled ahead at Highland Park to take a 35-31 win in overtime. The Caxys solved the riddle of Highland Park’s zone defense in overtime and knocked down free throws to seal the win. Arnas Simaitis ’25 led LFA with a game-high 19 points.

Lake Forest Academy made the trip to Francis Parker and notched a 52-51 win. The Caxys built a seven-point lead at halftime, but Francis Parker closed the gap in the second half as the game went back-and-forth in the fourth quarter. Rron Radoniqi ’24 led the Caxys with some clutch three-pointers as LFA held off Francis Parker.

Visiting Wendell Phillips Academy took an early lead as they defeated LFA by a score of 77-53. The Caxys made a run in the third quarter to cut the deficit, but the early lead for Phillips Academy was too much to overcome.

Caxys Lose: 53.00 - 63.00
After trailing throughout the first three quarters by as many as 20 points, the Caxys rallied in the fourth quarter before falling at Northridge Prep by a score of 64-53. LFA pulled to within five points with two minutes left in the game after converting Northridge turnovers off a full court press. Northridge sealed the game at the free throw line as the Caxys were forced to foul in the final minute. Mekael Mian ’25 led the charge in the fourth quarter with 10 points in the final eight minutes while Arnas Simaitis ’25 and Paulius Karvelis ’25 each chipped in a dozen points for the game.

Caxys Win: 48.00 - 46.00
Playing in the second game of the day at the CMA Winter Classic, and in front of a packed Culver crowd, the Caxys got off to a sluggish start against the home team, trailing 15-6 at the end of the first quarter and by eight at halftime. The second half saw the tide turn as the Caxys chipped away at the deficit before Rron Radoniqi ’24 nailed a three-pointer from the corner to push LFA ahead by two with 15 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Culver converted two free throws in the final seconds to send the game to overtime where Paulius Karvelis ’25 sealed the win with free throws for the 48-46 final score.

Caxys Lose: 48.00 - 68.00
Playing in the first of two games at the CMA Winter Classic hosted by Culver Academies, the Caxys dropped a 68-48 decision against Fort Wayne Canterbury (Ind.). After taking a 13-9 lead after the first quarter, LFA was allowed 21 points in the second frame and trailed by 10 at halftime. Paulius Karvelis ’25 scored 10 points in the third quarter as LFA outscored Canterbury by a 21-20 margin, but Canterbury was able to extend its lead in the fourth quarter.

A raucous home crowd welcomed Latin to Glore Gymnasium. LFA’s defensive pressure caused early turnovers, but the Caxys were unable to capitalize on Latin’s miscues. The visitors took a late lead and escaped with a three-point decision.

After a close first quarter, Wheaton Warrenville South opened up the game in the second quarter as they took advantage of seven offensive rebounds and 11 turnovers by LFA. Wheaton Warrenville South maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half with the final score settling at 53-26.

The last game of the tournament saw the Caxys take on Carmel Catholic. LFA got off to a great start and took an early lead before Carmel tied the score heading into halftime. The second half saw Carmel take the lead and pull away for the 59-41 final score. Rron Radoniqi ’24 led the Caxys with 16 points.

After the morning loss against Glenbard North, the Caxys bounced back in their second game of the day with a 51-42 win over Morton East. LFA started slow against Morton's full-court pressure and quickly faced a 10-point deficit. LFA chipped away and tied the score at the end of the third quarter before a strong quarter sealed the win.

LFA opened the Wheaton Warrenville South MLK Basketball Classic against Glenbard North. Glenbard North took an early lead before the Caxys made multiple runs in the second half. However the initial deficit was too much to overcome in the 59-45 defeat.

A standing-room-only Thursday night in Glore Gymnasium saw a back-and-forth game that ended with Grayslake Central escaping with a 62-57 decision. Grayslake Central maintained the advantage throughout the evening before a late charge by LFA and its full-court press pushed the visitors to the limit.

A close score at halftime was extended by Latin in the second half as the Romans pulled away in a 47-38 decision over the Caxys. Salajan English ’24 provided a spark off the bench for LFA, but each time the Caxys threatened, Latin knocked down key shots to maintain the advantage.

The Caxys jumped out to a 22-6 lead after the first quarter and managed North Chicago’s defensive pressure in a 56-38 win. Phillip Kavu ’24 facilitated the Caxy offense and was the anchor to LFA’s 1-3-1 defense while Mekael Mian ’25 affected play on both ends of the floor.

After going 1-2 in pool play, Lake Forest Academy met Lake Zurich in the fifth-place game of the Loyola Academy/New Trier Thanksgiving Tournament. A slow start for the Caxys combined with hot shooting by Lake Zurich saw LFA trailing by double figures at the end of the first quarter. The Caxys put together a couple of runs led by Salajan English ’24 in the second and third quarters, but the initial deficit was too much to overcome in the 65-37 decision.

LFA went toe-to-toe with Lake Forest, but came up short by a score of 41-30 in the third game of the Loyola Academy/New Trier Thanksgiving Tournament. After trailing by four at 21-17, the Caxys came out strong in the third quarter and took the lead. Paulius Karvelis ’25 led the third-quarter surge for LFA. Lake Forest regained the advantage with a brief run off of turnovers by LFA late in the third quarter and utilized free throw shooting during the fourth frame to seal the win over the Caxys.

The Caxys faced Taft in game two of the Loyola Academy/New Trier Thanksgiving Tournament and dropped a 50-37 decision. Taft’s trapping pressure defense put LFA in a hole as the Caxys trailed, 13-7, at the end of the first quarter. Rron Radoniqi ’24 warmed up in the second quarter as LFA threatened, but trailed by eight at halftime. In the third quarter, Arnas Simaitis ’25 scored all 11 of LFA’s points, but the deficit was too much to overcome in the defeat.

Caxys Win: 71.00 - 52.00
Lake Forest Academy opened the season with a 71-52 win over Bulls College Prep in the Loyola Academy/New Trier Thanksgiving Tournament. The Caxys' full-court press allowed the team to jump out to a quick lead that was maintained throughout the evening. LFA was led by Rron Radoniqi ’24, Arnas Simaitis ’25, Phillip Kavu ’24, and Mekael Mian ’25 who all scored in double figures.
