Boys Varsity Soccer Posts 3-1 Win Over Maine South

Caxys Win: 3.00 - 1.00
Lake Forest Academy closed the season with a 3-1 win over visiting Maine South on Senior Day. All seven seniors played a key role in the win that included consistent rain throughout the match. Matt Kupczyk ’24 was solid in goal with numerous saves throughout the afternoon. Evan Haldar ’24 finished the game with a goal and an assist to lead the Caxys. He assisted the first LFA goal by Yusef Primus ’25 and tallied the second score off an assist from Eric Jotkus ’25. The final Caxy goal of the match came off a set piece that saw Niki Momcilovic ’24 beat the keeper to secure the win.

The top two teams in the Independent School League squared off with a conference title on the line. LFA started slow and allowed two goals for visiting North Shore Country Day and trailed at the break. The Caxys came out strong in the second half with Evan Haldar ’24 scoring off an assist from Kristian Kopacz ’26 to cut the deficit in half. LFA continued to press but time expired before the home team could find the equalizer.

LFA and Reavis played to a 1-1 tie to send the match to penalty kicks to decide third and fourth place in the bracket. The Caxys got on the scoreboard first when Niki Momcilovic ’24 converted a penalty kick early in the second half. Reavis answered to tie the score before penalty kicks decided the outcome in favor of Reavis.

With the win over Rock Island, the Caxys advanced to the semifinals of the Continental Tire bracket at the Great River Classic. The semifinal matchup against De La Salle didn’t go LFA’s way as they dropped a 3-1 decision. De La Salle scored twice in the first half and again early in the second before Niki Momcilovic ’24 found the net for the Caxys late in the match.

The Caxys opened the Great River Classic with a 2-0 win over Rock Island. Niki Momcilovic ’24 scored the first goal of the match off a penalty kick in the 21st minute. Momcilovic struck again in the 78th minute as Evan Haldar ’24 assisted the goal. Matthew Kupczyk ’24 earned the shutout by holding Rock Island scoreless.

After playing to a scoreless tie into halftime, the Caxys erupted for three goals in the second half to take a 3-0 win over visiting Latin. Yusef Primus ’25 assisted Yaseen Primus ’24 for the first Caxy goal just before Kristian Kopacz ’26 found Niki Momcilovic ’24 for another LFA goal. The final Caxy goal saw Scottie Watson ’26 deflect the ball into the net off assists from Yusef Primus ’25 and Carlos Brito ’26.
Haldar's Hat Trick Leads Boys Varsity Soccer Over Northridge Prep

Caxys Win: 5.00 - 1.00
Evan Haldar ’24 registered a hat trick to lead Lake Forest Academy to an impressive 5-1 win over ISL foe Northridge Prep. Haldar opened the scoring with two quick goals in the first 10 minutes of action. Yusef Primus ’25 assisted the first goal in the eighth minute and Niki Momcilovic ’24 was credited with the helper on the second score. Haldar scored his third goal of the match early in the second half off a corner kick from Momcilovic. Carlos Brito ’26 tallied the fourth Caxy goal off an assist by Haldar and Scottie Watson ’26 wrapped up the scoring with the fifth goal that was assisted by Sy Rosenblatt ’25. Northridge Prep found the net in the final minutes of play for the 5-1 final score.

LFA traveled to Hyde Park looking for the season sweep against University High and came away with a 1-0 victory. The evenly-played match saw LFA score in the 66th minute as Evan Haldar ’24 assisted the goal by Kristian Kopacz ’26. The Caxy defense registered the shutout with goalkeeper Matthew Kupczyk ’24 making numerous saves and the back line of Eric Jotkus ’25 and Sy Rosenblatt ’25 holding U-High scoreless.

The Caxys faced University High on the stadium field at LFA and took a 3-1 win over the Maroons. After a scoreless first half, Kristian Kopacz ’26 put LFA on the board with an assist for Evan Haldar ’24. U-High answered and tied the match before Yusef Primus ’25 found Carlos Brito ’26 in the box to give LFA the lead for good in the 67th minute. Yaseen Primus ’24 scored on a header in the 78th minute off the pass from Kopacz for the 3-1 final score.

After taking a 1-0 lead at intermission, the Caxys opened up the offense with three second-half goals in a 4-1 win over visiting Francis Parker. Niki Momcilovic ’24 found the net first off an assist from Yusef Primus ’25 to give the Caxys a 1-0 lead. Early in the second half, Momcilovic assisted a goal by Evan Haldar ’24. LFA struck again midway through the second half as Krisitan Kopacz ’26 assisted Zaid Ansari ’26. In the final 10 minutes of play, Scottie Watson ’26 notched the fourth LFA goal that was assisted by Haldar. Francis Parker converted a PK opportunity late in the match for the 4-1 final.

After playing through regulation and a pair of overtime periods, Lake Forest Academy and Latin ended in a 2-2 draw. The Caxys scored first off a goal from Yaseen Primus ’24 that was assisted by Evan Haldar ’24. Latin came back to even the score and then took the lead towards the end of the first half. Late in the second half, the Caxys earned a penalty kick and Niki Momcilovic ’24 converted the opportunity to tie the score that would eventually lead to the 2-2 final score.

Carlos Brito ’26 assisted Evan Haldar ’24 for a goal late in the game to tie the score at 1-1. However, Jones answered and scored off a set piece to take the 2-1 decision.

The Caxys allowed an early goal by Payton before finding the net three times in the first half to take a 3-1 lead at the break. Evan Haldar ’24 scored twice in the first half off an assist by Kristian Kopacz ’26 on the first goal and an assist by Yusef Primus ’25 for the second goal. Primus scored LFA’s third goal that was assisted by Haldar. The Caxys added two insurance goals in the second half by Primus off an assist from Haldar and Sy Rosenblatt ’25 scoring off an assist by Yaseen Primus ’24.
Three Named to North Shore Shootout All-Tournament Team

The Lake Forest Academy boys varsity soccer team's run for a North Shore Shootout title came up short on Saturday as the Caxys dropped a 3-0 decision against Dundee-Crown. LFA advanced to the finals of the eight-team tournament hosted by Lake Forest with penalty kicks to decide each of its first two matches.
Following the tournament, Matt Kupczyk ’24, Evan Haldar ’24, and Yusef Primus ’25 were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts over the three matches.
Late Goal Forces PK Shootout as Caxys Reach Finals

Caxys Lose: 3.00 - 3.00
After playing to a 3-3 draw, the Caxys advanced to the finals of the North Shore Shootout via a 4-3 decision in penalty kicks against Glenbrook South. After allowing two first-half goals, Niki Momcilovic ’24 scored a pair of goals around the third goal for Glenbrook South for a 3-2 score at halftime.
The score stalled at 3-2 as LFA was trailing in the final minutes of regulation. On a free kick from just outside the penalty box, Matthew Kupczyk ’24 came out of net as goalkeeper and Momcilovic found him with a pass and Kupczyk tallied the equalizer to force the penalty kick shootout.
The penalty kick session saw Kupczyk make a pair of huge saves while Kristian Kopacz ’26, Jose Onofre ’24, Momcilovic, and Franco Sovero ’24 all converted their opportunities to send the Caxys to the finals.

Boys Varsity Soccer Advances in North Shore Shootout

Caxys Lose: 2.00 - 2.00
After playing to a 2-2 tie against Carmel Catholic, the Caxys advanced to the semifinals of the North Shore Shootout by a 5-4 advantage on penalty kicks. LFA faces Glenbrook South on Friday afternoon at Lake Forest HS.
The Caxys took an early advantage as Kristian Kopacz ’26 assisted Evan Haldar ’24 in the 25th minute. Carmel answered before Niki Momcilovic ’24 assisted LFA's second goal by Eric Jotkus ’25. Carmel evened the score again resulting in the 2-2 tie with penalty kicks to decide advancement to the semifinals. Matt Kupczyk ’24 stopped an attempt by the Corsairs while all five Caxys – Kopacz, Haldar, Jose Onofre ’24, Momcilovic, and Franco Sovero ’24 – converted their attempts.
