The LFA swimming team finished the season with a home tri-meet against Notre Dame College Prep and Milwaukee Riverside on Tuesday. LFA and Notre Dame were back and forth for much of the meet with the end result hanging in the balance until the last two events. The Caxys claimed six of the first eight events, but couldn’t hold off a deep team from Notre Dame. Zach Youn ’26 broke one last school record with a time of 56.45 in the 100 butterfly. Zach Youn ’26 set a new school record in the 200 freestyle while he also helped the 4x100 freestyle relay team break its own program mark. Youn set a new standard in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.36 to break the previous record of 1:50.96 by Calvin Osborne ’21 in 2019. In the 100 butterfly, Peter Schanzenbach ’25 swam a career best 1:02.54 and earned the silver medal. In the final event of the day, the 4x100 freestyle relay team of Henry Gold ’24, Nicholas Tsui ’24, Ryan Le ’27, and Youn broke their previous record by two seconds with a time of 3:35.37. University High won the ISL Championship with 266 points followed by Latin with 166 points and Lake Forest Academy with 154 points.  

LFA posted a 97-61 win over visiting Taft on Senior Night at the LFA Pool. Highlights during the meeting included William Xiao ’26 for completing his first ever 200 individual medley, Valor Cutaia ’26 setting a personal best in the 200 and 500 freestyles, and Peter Schanzenbach ’25 setting a blistering PR with a 1:03 in the 100 butterfly. The Caxys won eight of the 11 events en route to a 90-80 win at Deerfield. Zach Youn ’26 just missed a school record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.13. Maxim Grinberg ’27 also set a personal best with a time of 1:15 in the 100 butterfly.

The LFA boys swim team traveled to Warren Township for its first meet following winter break and came up on the short end of a 99-69 score. Zach Youn ’26 set a personal best in the 200 freestyle while the 400 freestyle relay team of Ryan Le ’27, Henry Gold ’24, Matthew Sexton ’24, and Youn ended the meet in style with a tight win in the last race of the day.

The LFA swimming team returned to the pool after winter break with a 93-77 win at Latin. Highlighting the meet was a new school record in the 100 freestyle by Zach Youn ’26. Youn set the new mark in a time of 50.26 outpacing the previous record of 50.42 by Ivan Makarenko ’20 in 2018. Other top finishers included John David Gallagher ’24 with a time of 1:05.51 in the 100 breaststroke and Peter Schanzenbach ’25 who overtook the field in the final length to win the 100 butterfly.  

A back-and-forth meet with University High ended in a tie by the score of 81-81. Zach Youn ’26 finished first in the 100 freestyle and the 200 freestyle to lead the Caxys. In the 50 freestyle, LFA took to the top two spots as Matthew Sexton ’24 and Nicholas Tsui ’24 placed first and second in the event. John David Gallagher ’24 also posted a top finish for LFA as he won the 100 breaststroke. Complete results can be found on the LFA Timing website.

All three school relays records fell as the Caxys hosted competitors from St. Viator and Stevenson in a tri-meet. LFA won the meet with a team score of 214 followed by Stevenson with 180 points and St. Viator with 114 points. The Caxys set new school marks in the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay, and the 400 freestyle relay. In the 200, the team of Zach Youn ’26, John David Gallagher ’24, Ryan Le ’27, and Matthew Sexton ’24 finished in a time of 1:47.09 to break the old record of 1:49.14. The quartet of Henry Gold ’24, Le, Youn, and Sexton set new records in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. The new 200 time of 1:34.11 bested the previous mark of 1:38.24 while the previous record in the 400 of 3:39.25 was eclipsed in a time of 3:37.50. The Caxys warmed up for the season with an intrasquad meet that featured the team split into Black and Orange squads. The Orange team pulled out to an early lead, but the Black squad closed in over the final three races including a photo finish in the final race to tie the meet at 266-266.
