Marianela González joined the faculty at Lake Forest Academy in 2017 after spending nine years at East Lake Academy in Lake Forest. While at ELA, she created and implemented the Spanish curriculum, which produced students who tested into Spanish 2 or 3 Honors at many high schools in the area. Marianela has also taught World Language Methods classes at National Louis University and a Spanish Intensive class at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake for seminary students heading to an eight-week immersion study in different Latin American countries. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and political science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a master’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature from Purdue University, and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from National Louis University. She is currently teaching Spanish I and Heritage Spanish, is the moderator for the Latinx Affinity group Unidos, and is the current chair of the Modern and Classical Languages Department. Most recently, she was recognized with the 2023 LFA Alumni Award for Teaching Excellence. Marianela resides in Mount Prospect with her daughters Alex and Andréa. Alex is a recent graduate from the College of Pharmacy at The Ohio State University and is currently in her second year of residency focusing on administration. Andréa recently earned her Master of Business Administration from Elmhurst University and currently serves as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Loras College. They are also proud owners of their almost three-year-old dog, Luna, who continues to entertain and learn commands in Spanish and English.
