Garry Sloan

Garry Sloan P’19, ’21 is Lake Forest Academy’s Dean of Advancement and joined the staff in January 2016. He was named Dean in the summer of 2023 after perviously serving as Assistant Dean of Advancement. Following several years as a music teacher and classical singer, Garry began his Advancement career as Director of Administration and Development for The Congressional Chorus (Washington, D.C.). He helped establish their educational program, The American Youth Chorus, which provides musical training and performance opportunities for middle and high school students throughout the nation’s capital.

Prior to coming to LFA, Garry was Director of Special Gifts – Midwest Region for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. He served as a Foundation liaison and major gift fundraiser for a 14-state territory. Garry’s predecessor in this role was LFA alumnus Al Louer ’63, who introduced Garry to LFA on a work trip to the Chicago area.

While living in Williamsburg, Garry assisted historic Bruton Parish Church with a capital campaign, securing over two million dollars in commitments toward a new organ as well as commitments in support of the Bruton Parish Foundation Endowment through gift planning. He also served as Assistant Conductor and occasional soloist for the Williamsburg Choral Guild.

Outside of LFA, Garry is an active volunteer. He and his family are active in The Church of the Holy Spirit, an Episcopal parish in Lake Forest, where he is a member of the vestry, moderates a podcast, plays on the softball team, and is leading a team to renovate the youth program. Garry is also a past board member and president of Taffety Punk Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. Originally from Missouri, Garry attended the University of Missouri – Columbia, followed by graduate work at the University of Central Oklahoma and the University of Oklahoma. He and his wife, Erin, are proud parents of two LFA alumni - M ’19 and Garrison ’21. They live in Mundelein with their dog, Edmund.
